In my follow up to Swindon BC telling me I can just chuck my spent batteries in the bin, I’ve been looking for contact information for the battery brands. It seems Duracell only have a phone number I can ring…. Let’s see what they have to say.

Duracell - no web contact form
Battey Disposal
A few days ago Swindon Borough Council told me it was OK for me to throw my batteries in the bin (as long as it was only a small number).
This has been troubling me ever since, so I’m going to write to the battery manufacturers and ask them what they suggest.
Nothing from Next
Well Next has failed to respond in the 10 days their email suggested it would take. I’m disappointed by this as I feel they have now let me down as a customer. I (well my wife actually) bought into the brand reputation through the purchase of the belt, and now it’s looking dodgy. I’m still hoping not to be let down by this well known brand.
Tomorrow I’ll follow this up with them - possibly over the phone if I can find a contact number.
Sultana Bran - update
I’ve heard back from Sainsbury’s today. Great - quicker than I expected. The detail was not as much as I’d hoped for, so I’ve asked for a bit more information. See the Food/Sainsbury’s Sultana Bran section for details.
Fair Trade Wine - update 2
I’ve had a response from Fair Trade re the wine - excellent. It referred me to all sorts of documents including this - the Five Guarantees, and gave me the email address of the importer who I hope will be able to answer the questions the folks at Fair Trade were unable to.
For reference the Importer was Erhmanns who I was told can be found at http://www.ehrmanns.com - but I can’t seem to get through… I’m searching..
Waste disposal

Having just read the somewhat scary book “Garbage Land: On the secret trail of trash“, I have decided to start trying to be a bit more responsible about how I dispose of things.
This book is well worth a read and can be found at Amazon by clicking here
Take a look in the section on waste on this site to see what I have been asking about my waste disposal. I’d love to have time to do the sort of research that was done in this book. Has anyone done anything like that here in the UK?
Fair Trade Wine - update
No response from the Fair Trade folks yet - but they did visit the site yesterday. I guess to see what I had published. Thanks very much, I look forward to hearing from you.
Awstats really is a good tool to see who is visiting. Details of this Free Open Source tool can be found at http://awstats.sourceforge.net. A small screen shot is shown below.
A New Year
Back to work again tomorrow. The holiday always goes so quickly at Christmas with so much on.
Once again we probably spent too much money and ate too much food. Makes me feel a bit guilty really when so much of the world has so little compared to us.
I note that nearly everything we bought for the kids this year was made in China. That worries me.
I’m looking for ideas for products to try and get more information on. One struck me today as being a good one to try. We generally buy organic food and produce when we can afford it. I note that Sainsbury’s always provides a product code on their Organic Fruit and Veg so one can look up who it was produced by. This is a simple process for single sourced product. The product is unaltered as it moves through the supply chain and therefore the supplier remains easy to identify. But can Sainsbury’s tell me the same information for a box of Sultana Bran? Lets see…
